We followed the signage to the park and took Bull Run Post Office Rd off Lee Hwy. If that is your goal, this is probably the park for you. It's also fairly easy to daytrip into DC by using the nearby Metro stations. The park is conveniently located near Bull Run Battlefield and the Udvar Hazy center. Among the park amenities are the aforementioned shooting range, a disc golf course, a water park, hiking trails, numerous sports fields and playgrounds, and probably others I did not discover. As you might expect there are a lot of large families camped out as well to take advantage of the amenities. Apparently cruising through the campground by car, motorcycle, and bicycle is a common pastime of day-trippers. This is a busy park with lots of amenities and day-use. Unfortunately the jets landing and taking off from Dulles airport only temporarily drown out the gunshots. If you have dogs that react to gunfire, you probably don't want to stay here. There is a shooting range in the park is located adjacent to the campground. There was a popular hiking/equestrian trail 10 feet into the woods that runs along that side of the campground. While it appeared that our site offered some quiet because it bordered a forest, that was not to be. There is a decent amount of separation from your neighbors because of the size of the pad, but for the most part the vegetation has been cut back so there is little screening. Our pad was huge as were many of the others we saw. The parking/camping pad is a combination of large coarse gravel and dirt/mud. You will hear many conversations that you wish you hadn't. You can expect to have a constant stream of pedestrian and vehicle traffic passing three feet away from your home, including a 30-bicycle peleton that came racing through. The utility pedestal is all that separates you from the main campground road. Site preparation and maintenance is clearly not one of their priorities as there was a 4-inch deep tire rut directly in front of the utility pedestal. Anyone with a larger RV or trailer should expect to be given one of these sites. We did arrive in the afternoon and were given a pull through site on the main campground road. Apparently you are just left on your own. I would not recommend arriving late as the guy driving around the campground at 9pm found out. Once you get to the park though, the roads are good. Bull Run Post Office Road is narrow, curvy, and has no shoulders. You will want to take it slow driving to the park. It is not a great place to camp and certainly not at the price point they have chosen. I would say it's a great place to spend the day. Bull Run Regional Park is a lovely park with a number of amenities.
